I took on many roles during this project. Tapping into my sports background, I utilized leadership, communication, and facilitation skills in collaboration with my cohort's expertise to help guide Echoes from concept to reality. Many key details, such as the elongated bed, clothing rack, and freestanding shower, were ideas pitched by me. I exercised adaptability and creativity during installation, and stayed cool under the pressure of a tight deadline.

Echoes of the Closet critiques the divisionary nature often found in seemingly inclusive spaces, and examines how categorization may become a tool of oppression rather than a liberating force within Western cisheteropatriarchal society. Coming from diverse ethnic, racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, the curators highlight the intersectional ties they have— and do not have— with each other and their communities. The curators investigate the intersections within their diverse communities and disrupt the feigned inclusivity in spaces as intimate as the home. Echoes challenges and stretches the flattened binary of relationships between queerness, family, heritage, and senses of belonging. This is the first exhibition curated by MICA’s Curatorial Practice MFA class of 2026 (CP26).
In an anonymous post-reception survey i wrote and distributed, many visitors remarked upon the powerful reflective experiences they had during their visit to Echoes. Many commented on the complete transformation of the space from a white cube into an enveloping space where connection and introspection flowed.
As a team, CP26 will take the lessons learned from Echoes as they embark on their next project titled ACCESS GRANTED, opening 1/31/25 at MICA's Meyerhoff Gallery. Read more about it here:
