From 1/29/25 - 03/09/25, the MICA Curatorial Practice MFA Class of 2026 (CP26) activated a daring new project called ACCESS GRANTED.
This exhibition reflects on the role of community and knowledge exchange as foundations of social engagement, especially amid rising threats to the American educational system. Using historical context on the controversial role of education systems and practices in the United States, ACCESS GRANTED challenges traditional frameworks and imagined spaces where equitable, diverse learning can flourish. In collaboration with Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore Beat, Baltimore Underground Science Space, and La Escuela, this exhibition creates space for community to think critically about who controls and distributes information.
Throughout the duration of this project, ACCESS GRANTED hosted extensive public programming and interactive workshops, both inside the gallery and beyond, challenging what a classroom can be and providing participants with the tools needed to consume and share knowledge responsibly.
However, ACCESS GRANTED is more than just a temporary physical space. In order to continue the impact and reach of this project, I personally created the ACCESS GRANTED website [LINK TO COME]. This site is an active, evolving archival space that houses all the content that was present in the physical iteration of the project without the constraints of physical space. This digital format of ACCESS GRANTED allows anyone, anywhere to experience the project.
Working on the creation of this website has inspired me to start imagining how I can digitally activate future projects. It is my goal to continue expanding and innovating the ACCESS GRANTED website to create a more dynamic, interactive platform for participants to not only engage with the content, but with one another as well.
